Exhausted doctors in Bergamo offer ideas on how to treat the next pandemic

At the Epicenter of the Covid-19 Pandemic and Humanitarian Crises in Italy: Changing Perspectives on Preparation and Mitigation

These doctors work at the Papa Giovanni XXII Hospital (ICU beds: 48) in the small city Bergamo, which has over 4,300 COVID-19 cases, more than any other part of Italy. In the midst of their exhaustion, they’re looking ahead to the next outbreak and say it must be treated through community-centered rather than patient-centered care. Not only would that include more resources, they say, but hospitals themselves may be the main virus carriers in this pandemic.
